Oviedo Montessori School was established in 1998. It is a child size environment with a safe, secure atmosphere. We accept only 45 children. There is an acre of playground for gardening, running and climbing. Classes are multi-aged for children 2 years old - Kindergarten

Ms. Karen Nelson, Directress

My goal for Oviedo Montessori School is to give your child the opportunity to develop the intellectual foundation and self-confidence that will benefit him for the rest of his life.  I believe that the True Montessori Method is the most satisfying and challenging way for a child to learn. When children are allowed to work at their own pace and find their own levels, it is exciting to see how quickly they advance in their knowledge. I have a BA in Elementary Education from the University of Central Florida, a Florida Teaching Credential for Elementary Education grades K-6 and a  Teaching Credential for Prekindergarten/Primary Education age 3-grade 3, Montessori Certification from the American Montessori Society (AMS) and St. Nicholas, an Advanced Director’s Credential, and CPR/First Aide.

Ms. Migdalia Torres

I have been as a Montessori Teacher since 1998, and have enjoyed working in Oviedo Montessori School since 2004. I have a BA in Elementary Education & Special Education from Colegio Universitario Metropolitano, Puerto Rico, and Montessori Certification for ages 2-6.  Montessori is a different method of learning, beginning with the teachers preparing the environment for the children.  Montessori students learn through hands on experiences and work at their own pace, so a prepared environment is very important.  Children work in a multi-age classroom where they can learn from their peers.  I teach the children conversational Spanish, my first language, as well as help integrate new children that only speak Spanish. I attend seminars and workshops to keep my education current and am certified in CPR and first aide.

Ms. Shobha Sastry

I find teaching Montessori very interesting, because children learn at their own pace.  I have been teaching Montessori education for more than 10 years including teaching in Oviedo Montessori School since 2004. I have a BS in math and science from Bangalore University, India, and Montessori Certification as well as certified in CPR and First aide. I attend Montessori workshops continuously to improve and update the program. Montessori education means a lot to me. It gives me great satisfaction when the children learn independently as a natural step in the learning process.  The Montessori approach to education is consciously designed to recognize different learning styles.  Montessori students learn through hands on experience.  Its curriculum is carefully structured and integrated from concrete to abstract.  My goal is to help children learn to their maximum capacity. This year I have expanded the math curriculum to include advanced algebra and geometry.

Ms. Kimmy Mansour

I have an A.S. degree from Kingdom of Jordan, and CDA. I have 13 years of experience in preschools, and I have been working with Oviedo Montessori School since 2004. I am trained in the Montessori Method and certified in CPR and First Aide, and participated in numerous educational activities and training sessions including a Montessori Music Workshop. I chose to work with Oviedo Montessori School because it is a role model in the field, providing the children with the care and attention they need to grow and learn in a healthy environment. The Montessori classroom offers a variety of opportunities for children to experience freedom within an attractively structured and welcoming classroom. Another thing I like about the Oviedo Montessori School is that it has an excellent reputation, and the administration always strives to maintain this by recruiting excellent teachers who are patient and understanding of children, especially those children who need extra attention.

PARENT TESTIMONIAL

Our son started Oviedo Montessori in April 2006, just in time to start the summer Pre-K program. Our original plan was to transfer him to our local public school for Kindergarten. We always thought our son was a reader because he knew all of his sight words. It was quickly brought to our attention; upon evaluation that not only was he not a reader he did not know his phonics. The staff took action and started him on his road to reading, using several hands on methods.

Impressed with his progress at the end of the summer, coupled with the fact that each child is assessed as an individual rather than a group, we decided to leave our son at Oviedo Montessori for Kindergarten.

We knew our son would excel anywhere he went because of the core skills taught at Oviedo Montessori. At the end of Kindergarten our son was confidently reading grade 3 and 4 chapter books. He left the Montessori School with high levels of confidence. In Montessori the children are taught inner discipline, creativity and respect for others. This school is great for children from all backgrounds. I could go on and on, my husband and I were so impressed with this school.

WHERE IS DILLON TODAY? He has been accepted into Trinity Preparatory School and will be the youngest Student on Campus.

ADDITIONAL TESTIMONIALS

November 18, 2010

Hi Ms Karen,

I hope all is well with you and your staff.  I wanted to share some exciting news!  Bria has been identified as being an exceptionally gifted student.  The principle at her school said "When she first arrived we knew she had a strong academic foundation and was advanced".   In the three weeks that followed they tested her academically and interviewed her to see if she had the social skills and maturity to match.  As a result they have asked our permission to skip a grade and place her in that gifted program.  So Bria will be 5 years old  and in the first grade gifted program!

I have shared with you my fear of finding another program that will ensure she reaches her academic potential, and I feel we are heading in the right direction.

I want to thank you and your staff again for having such a great quality program, highly qualified teachers, and creating an amazing learning environment.   Education and learning are priorities in our home but we were truly blessed to find a preschool that embraced the many disciplines of learning that we felt were important.  Bria has developed such a hunger and love for learning, is driven to succeed, is very independent and confident.  She has an awareness and understanding of the diversity of the world, has a desire to help others, and socially can hold a conversation with anyone form 3 years to 80 years old!

Thank you again to you and your staff.  Please continue to shape and develop the young minds that are fortunate enough to find their way to Oviedo Montessori School- My Hidden Goldmine!
